Rick Ingham
9th September 1935 – 25th January 2017 (81)
Rick (full name Frederick), the eldest of three brothers, was born and
educated in Accrington. His father and mother were both mill workers.
He did National Service with the RAMC (Medical Corps) during which he spent
time in Tripoli, Libya. On discharge he sought Jean, the young woman
he had courted before being posted abroad, but in the meantime she had moved
with her parents to Morecambe. They recalled a story of him cycling
from Accrington to Morecambe only to be turned away at the door by the young
lady playing hard to get! But love conquered all and they were married
on Christmas Eve 1955. They had one daughter, Sue, and eventually four
grandchildren. In 1971 Rick and Jean moved to St. Annes and later Rick
trained at Preston Poly to be a teacher of children with disabilities and he
dedicated his career to Woodlands School in Blackpool. Rick was a
competent artist and an accomplished woodcarver.
His wife Jean died very suddenly at home in
November 1998. He spent the later years of his life with his partner
Wendy but became a victim of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease). He died on January 25th 2017 at the age of 81.
